Rio Grande do Sul is a state in the southern part of Brazil, bordering Argentina in the south and Uruguay in the west. The official language of Brazil is Portuguese. The state receives 2 million international tourists annually and boasts beaches, mountains, wineries, and a "Little Italy," as a result of Italian immigration.
Brazilians are very welcoming and warm, and they usually participate a lot in our work. The community is very proactive in helping each other and is happy to be part of our efforts to help strengthen them as well. Our base is located in a very urban area in Porto Alegre, so there are shopping malls, supermarkets, small shops, restaurants, and chain and local fast food, at around 10 minutes away by car. Uber and other car services are easy to get from our base. The closest private hospital is Hospital São Lucas da PUCRS, less than 10 minutes by car, and the public hospital, that accepts foreigners and has the best medical care for emergency cases, is Hospital de Clínicas de Porto Alegre, also around 10 minutes by car from our base.

Please pack accordingly and be sure to check the local weather before joining us.
