Shopping is best done at home, so please come prepared. Please pack light - think about what is needed vs wanted; space on base is tight.
Be prepared for any clothing you wear on the work site to get ruined and dirty. Proper PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) is a requirement for volunteers. Please bring your own sleeping pad, pillows, and sleeping bag/blankets, or ask our Volunteer Relations Coordinator if there are any spare sleeping gear. Please see the following lists for required and recommended items:
Work boots - mandatory when working on site. Preferably, these should be sturdy construction work boots. Puncture-proof soles and steel-toe boots are recommended. Sturdy hiking boots are acceptable, but not preferred;
Passport or photo ID
Sleeping bag, sleeping mat, pillow, etc. (It is winter here now, so a warm sleeping bag or extra blankets will be very useful)
Warm clothes; jacket, sweaters, etc. It gets cold at night and June is Brazil's winter.
Battery pack- access to electricity may be limited
Waterproof rain jacket and/or umbrella- it will be wet and rainy here so don't forget this!
Rain boots, or shoes you don't mind getting dirty.
Bug spray- we have been warned of increases in Dengue and mosquito-borne diseases being likely. While for right now the cooler temperatures are keeping the mosquitos away, we recommend bringing a high-percentage deet bug spray.
Preferred sleeping items including sleeping pad, sheets, pillow, pillow case, sleeping bag, etc
