Aldo Leopold Charter School

Beyond Borders

Water animals and watercolor, what a perfect combination! The middle school students selected an animal that lives in the water to study for this project. The students looked closely at their chosen water animal and drew it numerous times to master the animal's unique characteristics.

We also dove into learning the techniques of watercolor paint. We created a watercolor study to help prepare us for the final painting.

Finally, the students had to remember to only add color within the rectangle border. Everything outside this border would be completed with only ink. However, their water animal would be colored even outside the rectangle to create overlapping and a sense of depth.
