We propose a regular program review to be a more frequent (a 5-year rather than 6-year cycle), more intentionally connected to the SLOA (Student Learning Outcome Assessment) reporting cycle, and for the review to take place among colleagues in a shared College, Department, or Academic Unit. If a program warrants "further review" (regardless of reason), there will be an additional stage of review. A review conclude with recommendations, and these recommendations will be part of the program development process that will take place in the years following reporting years.
Related, we are creating automated tools (e.g., standardized data products, synced templates) to ensure that faculty time will be spent collaborating and making data-informed decisions. We have a recruited a team of UAF staff, faculty, and administrators who is willing to share their regular meeting times and their agenda to raise awareness of the proposed changes and listen to feedback. We also intend to regularly update this website with our progress. Please let us know your thoughts through our feedback page.
The more frequent and regular cycle will help programs and faculty feel less stress and burden when it comes to a program review year. Although there may be concern that the change in the duration of focus of Academic Program Review could lead to a greater probability of program discontinuation, 98.7% of programs who were involved in regular program review were recommended for continuation from 2016-2020.
Academic Program Data is updated annually. The plan is to offer this program data through your own programmatic website where the data updates automatically for a program's continued look at trends.

Program review is a comprehensive evaluation of an academic program for the purposes of improvement and accountability. Reviewing committees evaluate the quality of, need for, and centrality of the program to the university's missions and goals. Since student learning is a fundamental goal of any academic program, the student learning outcomes assessment plan executed by each program is a significant component of the program review process.
