Overview:
The Learning Support class is designed to support the learning needs of neurodiverse students at AISJ. This course provides targeted, data-driven academic interventions to help students address specific learning challenges and build foundational skills for high school success. Students will receive personalized support tailored to their unique needs using assessment data and progress monitoring. Each student enrolled in the Learning Support class receives an Individualized Learning Plan that outlines specific goals and accommodations. Goals are designed to address specific skill area deficits. Accommodations are then provided to allow students to access the general education curriculum and demonstrate an understanding of content with appropriate supports and scaffolds. Interventions focus on improving reading comprehension, math problem-solving, written expression, and executive functions. Students will use evidence-based strategies and practices to close skill gaps, enhance understanding, and promote long-term academic growth. Additionally, students will focus on skills related to self-advocacy, time management, organization, test-taking, stress management, and ownership of learning.
Skills Focus:
Self-advocacy (mainly through the Individualized Learning Plan process), time management, organization skills, testing skills, ownership of learning, community building, emotional control, stress management, and critical thinking skills.
Prerequisites: Complete and up-to-date (within the last three years) Psych-Ed Assessment with cognitive and academic standard measures and/or previous evidence of prior interventions.
