How can I visually explore feelings of ugliness using a range of media?
I experimented with using old photos and drawings to stimulate my artwork as doing so helped define my personal understanding of my chosen topic. The use of light pinks and yellows is practiced throughout my investigation as a means to juxtapose the glee the individual derives from an act of harm with its disturbed nature. I had also experimented with an anime-esque art style to portray my disdain for the media's portrayal of the female from. Throughout the investigation I experimented with differing styles and proportions in drawing female faces and physiques in order to contrast the unrealistic beauty expectations of society. In some pieces, I had used graphite pencil and traditional female poses to contrast the traditional views of women historically in art. Revision was used in a few of the pieces' composition to make them more confronting to the viewer, causing them discomfort, as if they are looking into the figure’s private moments.
