How can I convey the idea of body image in a positive light and provide women with more confidence?
My sustained investigation used nonconventional female individuals to empower women symbolizing acceptance and strength. In some pieces I have explored the idea of the skin disease ‘vitiligo’ by experimenting with different media to communicate this disease to the audience. The photography series creates body positivity through writing on the skin and then photographing it. The use of text was practiced again in the black and white hand rendered pieces exploring the female images that are usually portrayed in media. I practiced my photography skills by revising the composition of my pictures to make it more engaging to a viewer. To create synthesis throughout my investigation a black and white color scheme was practiced in different media throughout my portfolio. These hand-rendered skills were further practiced and experimented in color in the series which shows the skin disease. Experimentation and practice of printmaking throughout the portfolio and sketchbook work also helped create a synthesis of using text to unify my portfolio. To add coalescence to my investigation I used the same body-positive models in certain slides revising, experimenting, and drawing them in a range of different media.
