In this project, we have addressed the problem of collection, disposal, and processing of dry-leaves-waste occurring mainly in residential societies. Our main goal was to make the whole process of collection, disposal, and processing of dry leaves ‘Easy, Efficient, Effortless, and Environmental friendly’.
Defining the “4 E’s”
Easy meaning the adaptation of the newly proposed method is trouble-free for all categories of customers. In addition to that, the ease in the process of manufacturing the product has also been considered here.
Efficient meaning the task of collection and processing is performed in the best possible manner in comparatively less amount of time and efforts.
Effortless (less tedious) meaning the proposed method works towards eliminating the monotonous routine involved in the already existing methods of collection, disposal and processing of dry-leaves-waste.
Environmental friendly meaning this method tries to achieve the maximum possible output from the process keeping its harm to the ecosystem under check.
In order to achieve our goal, we have proposed an eco-friendly leaf-collector that collects the dry-leaves on the streets. A vacuum based suction mechanism is designed for the collection process.
For the storage as well as processing of the collected dry-leaves, we planned to attach a reusable environmental friendly bag, in which the leaves can be composted. For making the composting method eco-friendly, we have proposed a method where an oxygen-rich environment is provided in the bag. This reduces the methane production. Further, the carbon dioxide released in this composting can be utilized as a feed-stock in industrial processes. With the suction mechanism and attached eco-friendly bags, we achieved our goal to make the task of collection as well as processing easy, efficient, and eco-friendly.
However, this mechanism is quite heavy and hence its transportation would become quite tedious. To overcome that problem, we have made a remote-control based vehicle on which the suction mechanism has been fixed. Since there is no power generation using fossil fuels, the method creates less pollution.
