The Concept

The Legacy Project (Legacy) is a dynamic visual arts and environmental afterschool program from the Attitudinal Healing Connection. Legacy supports youth in developing powerful, educated voices for social and environmental justice in their communities. Students are able to work side by side with experienced artists, environmentalists, and activists, all who support them in their journeys as young visionaries. Legacy collaborates with community partners such as City Slicker Farms and West Oakland Environmental Indicators Project to make this program possible.

2021-22 Legacy Project cohort visits San Francisco's Ocean Beach to observe local flora and fauna as well as learn about the unique history of Land's End. AHC acknowledges the social barriers of Oakland youth have in participating in Legacy, and addresses those needs through stipends, transportation support, and compassionate learning. Environmental justice is not just about education, but  also providing  accessibility to healing and empowering experiences such as visiting the outdoors.
