Communication of information regarding the award is done though a number of channels.
Meetings are an important part of DofE as it allows you to ask questions and to talk to other participants. Meetings are advertised in school notices a number of days in advance. If you cannot attend any of these meetings it is important to ensure that you speak with classmates to get the information shared.
The daily bulletin will have information on deadlines and meetings. It is important to check the daily bulletin to ensure that no important dates are missed.
Important parental information including expedition sign is sent home via ParentPortal. Information shared on ParentPortal is also shared on PupilPortal and notices so it is important to check these regularly.
This website was launched in November 2018 and is updated frequently. There is important information including expedition dates, kit list, kit rental forms and FAQ sections. This can be accessed through the school website by clicking 'AGS Life' then 'DofE'. Please see the link here - school DofE website. (but you know that because you are already here)
Expeditions are run by Zest for Adventure. They will contact you in the run up to the expeditions with details on location and with contact information for the weekend.
Finally, Mr Jones can be contacted via email or you can come to see me during break or lunch in GE1.
You are reminded that his is your award and you should be responsible for making sure you know what is going on
Your eDofE number is on your eDofE profile. Log into eDofE and look in the top left hand corner to find it.
No. As long as your total number of hours is correct then you can miss a week. e.g. you must complete 13 hours of activity to complete a 3 month section. If you are unwell for a week or perhaps your activity runs in school term and there is a holiday, you can continue back once you are well or when term restarts. This would mean you would complete your 13 weeks of activity in 14 weeks.
No. You should be aiming to show commitment over a sustained period of time. The most that can be accepted is two hours once every two weeks.
An Assessor can be anyone who is interested in helping you to achieve, has some knowledge of the activity you are doing and can be available over the time you're doing it.
From the local football club coach to a charity shop manager, from the neighbour who’s a web designer to the conservation expert leading a residential week, just about anyone can be an Assessor for the Volunteering, Physical, Skills and Residential sections.
However, they MUST be independent. Therefore, they CANNOT be a member of your family.
It is important to speak with the person you would like to assess you at the beginning of your award to discuss what you would like to achieve.
The expeditions are on the calendar here
A detailed kit list can be found here. You will have a meeting to discuss what equipment you will need prior to each expedition weekend. You will need some individual kit, like waterproofs and a sleeping bag, and some group kit, like a tent and stove. This will all be arranged in the weeks leading up to your expedition.
No. There is a kit store at Green Park in Aston Clinton which rents kit. To rent all the kit required for a weekend including waterproofs and boots costs around £12.50. You may consider buying your own personal items such as a sleeping bag or backpack, especially if you are looking to complete the Silver and Gold Awards.
You can download the assessor's report cards from the resources page here. Alternatively, you can direct your assessor to the webpage here where they can enter your assessor's report directly. All they will need is your eDofE number and the dates your activity started and ended.
Once you complete your final section your award will need to be approved and verified. This can take a little while but once this has been done your certificate will be printed and presented in school. You can check on the progress of your award by logging into eDofE.
Awards are presented in the end of term celebration assembly. Don't worry if your award isn't presented, it may have been verified after the assembly was planned and will be presented to you next term.
