To avoid carrying lots of heavy food, try to coordinate your shopping or do your shopping with the rest of your tent group.
Plan your meals together so that you can cook together. It is easier to cook a large pot of pasta than to cook five smaller pots. It also saves on washing up
Bring enough food for two strenuous days (but not too much). Whilst dry noodles may be light, they offer little over 250cal per pack. After a long day walking you may have burned over 3500cal.
Food should be light (dehydrated food or concentrated drink) - Remember that you have to carry food in and rubbish out. Tinned food is not your friend.
Food should travel well in a rucksack on a hot day. Chocolate is high energy but could melt. Fried eggs for breakfast seems like a good idea, but broken eggs in your rucksack will spoil your weekend
Where necessary, food can be re-packaged into smaller containers to avoid bringing too much. Avoid bringing full bags of pasta if you only plan to use smaller servings. Weigh out your servings in advance.
