Science & Technological Curriculum
Science, Design & Technology (DT) and Computing
Scientific & Technological Curriculum at North Thoresby Primary Academy
The intent for Science within the school:
Our high-quality inclusive and innovative science education provides the foundations for understanding the world through the specific disciplines of biology, chemistry and physics. Â
Science has changed our lives and is vital to the world’s future prosperity, and all pupils will be taught essential aspects of the knowledge, methods, processes and uses of science. Â
Through building up a body of key foundational knowledge and concepts, pupils will be encouraged to be inquisitive, to recognise the power of rational explanation and develop a sense of excitement and curiosity about natural phenomena. They will be encouraged to understand how science can be used to explain what is occurring, predict how things will behave, and analyse causes.Â
The intent for Computing within the school:
Our high-quality computing education equips pupils to use computational thinking and creativity to understand and change the world. Computing has deep links with mathematics, science, and design and technology, and provides insights into both natural and artificial systems.Â
The core of computing is computer science, in which pupils are taught the principles of information and computation, how digital systems work, and how to put this knowledge to use through programming. Building on this knowledge and understanding, pupils are equipped to use information technology to create programs, systems and a range of content. Computing also ensures that pupils become digitally literate – able to use, and express themselves and develop their ideas through information and communication technology – at a level suitable for the future workplace and as active participants in a digital world.
Our Computing scheme of work enables pupils to meet the end of key stage attainment targets in the National curriculum and the aims also align with those in the National curriculum.Â
The intent for DT within the school:
North Thoresby & Utterby Primary Academies’ design and technology scheme of work aims to inspire pupils to be innovative, inquisitive and creative thinkers who have an appreciation for the product design cycle through ideation, creation and evaluation.Â
We include all pupils and encourage them to be confident to take risks, through drafting design concepts, modelling, and testing and to be reflective learners who evaluate their work and the work of others.Â
Through our scheme of work, we aim to build an awareness of the impact DT has on our lives and encourage pupils to become resourceful, enterprising citizens who will have the skills to contribute to future design advancements.Â
This DT scheme of work enables pupils to meet the end of key stage attainment targets in the National curriculum and the aims also align with those in the National curriculum.Â
