Students at Greenwood Academy are today celebrating GCSE results, with 47% securing 9-4 in both Maths and English. Part of Academies Enterprise Trust, the academy has performed well under the new, tougher GCSE exams that have been introduced over the last couple of years.
The Academy has seen some strong improvements over the last year, particularly at the higher grades: English 9 – 5: up by 5 points to 53% (2018: 48%)
2018 saw the introduction of the new exams in virtually all GCSE subjects. A new grading system is in place, with 9 – 1 grades replacing the old A* - G. Under the new system a grade 7 equates to an A and a 4 is equivalent to the old C grade.
The new grade 9 was designed to challenge and reward the very brightest and best students across the country. At Greenwood Academy, the following students secured these top grades:
Greenwood also performed well in last week’s A Level results with 46% of students securing A* - C and 25% of grades were A* - B in an A Level qualification and an Average Point Score of 24.4.
“We are very pleased that overall we have seen a 12% increase in students achieving a strong pass in English and Maths. A record 14 grade 9's were achieved by students at Greenwood this year and in BTEC 4 double Distinction Stars and 11 double Distinctions.”
“Congratulations to all the pupils and staff at Greenwood Academy, and the wider team at AET, on reaching the culmination of much hard work. GCSE results day marks the moment so many young people will make choices that can shape the rest of their lives, so whatever path they choose, every pupil at Greenwood Academy should do so full of confidence.”
“Our congratulations go out to all students and staff at Greenwood Academy – it’s still early days for the new exam system, but we are very proud of how well students have done, and their hard work and focus over the last two years have clearly paid off. Particular congratulations to Jake and Amandeep– they are part of a very small and elite group of students across the country and deserve to be recognised.
“At AET, we are wholly focused on ensuring that the education our academies provide helps young people go on to lead remarkable lives. That is fast becoming a reality at Greenwood Academy and we wish all of our students the very best for the next step they take on that journey, whether it is further study or going into training or employment.
“The last three years has seen far-reaching changes at AET. Bar our name above the door, everything has changed – from the type of support we provide to each academy through to our governance. Everything is now geared towards the central goal of “remarkable lives” and it is wonderful to see the impact of those changes now coming through in each of our academies. The future is looking very positive, and my congratulations to everyone who is celebrating these results today.”
