Academy Council
Academies Enterprise Trust (AET) is a national network of schools comprising 57 primary, secondary and special schools in England supporting each other to deliver our mission of providing an excellent education to every child, in every classroom, every day.
What is an Academy Council?
At Academies Enterprise Trust, we want to make sure that we will provide an excellent education to every child, in every classroom, every day. We know however, that positive relationships with parents, staff, and the broader community are the keys to an effective school and no school can truly be high-performing without these relationships.
Academy Councils are at the heart of our school’s journey. It serves as the single local body squarely focused on providing insight into the experiences of pupils, parents, staff, and the wider community.
Academy Councils are Local Advisory Committees, this means that:
The advisory committee is tasked with meaningful engagement with parents and local communities.
You'll consider diverse views and highlight how school matters impact the community, fostering effective communication and collaboration between the school and local stakeholders.
You’ll be serving as an ambassador, your role enriches both the school and the community.
This experience not only fulfils you personally but also enhances your career skills and prospects.
You will need a commitment to the school and the welfare of the pupils, the time and willingness to get involved, and the ability to work as a team and understand the principle of collective responsibility.
You will attend 3 meetings a year (once a term) and attend occasional school events.
Academy Councils are not:
Governing Boards - Academy councils do not have a set of delegated functions or powers, and do not make decisions over school-level finance, health and safety, safeguarding or education
