On the 15th January, Dean Coady OBE. visited Winton to work with their year 8 students, educating them about the risks associated with knife crime which is on the rise nationally. The workshops were funded by Hampshire Police to inform young people in Hampshire about knife crime and how they, as a community can work together to reduce these risks.

Dean has a very direct ‘street’ approach that immediately engaged the students. In the material. Students were asked to explore scenarios of what they would do if they became aware of a knife crime or risks associated with it. Students learned not only about the risks but also how destructive knife crime can be for families and communities.

At the end of the day staff were invited to attend a supplementary CPD with explored Child Criminal Exploitation, County Lines and Knife Crime. This session was also attended by Police Officers from the Hampshire constabulary.

The feedback from Students and staff was incredibly positive and the immediate response from staff was that it would be really useful to run a similar workshop for parents so that they are fully informed. This is something I am keen to explore at some point in the future.
