AET appoints David Hall as new Chair of the Board of Trustees

Tribute paid to outgoing Chair, Jack Boyer, for overseeing a period of “radical change”

AET is today announcing David Hall as its new Chair of Trustees. A former Chair of the Financial Services Compensation Scheme, Mr Hall was awarded a CBE for services to the financial services sector in 2012.

Mr Hall formally joins the Board of Trustees in September taking up the role from Jack Boyer who has served as Chair of the Board of Trustees since May 2016.

Mr Hall brings with him a wealth of Board experience across the public, private and third sectors. He has chaired Remuneration, Risk, Audit and Nomination Committees and been the Senior Independent Director of a public company.

He has served as a Trustee of the social mobility charity The Sutton Trust and is Chair of the Grants Committee and Deputy Chair of The Education Endowment Fund, a fund established by the Government to improve the educational outcomes for disadvantaged children. Mr Hall is a Governor of Swanlea School in Tower Hamlets and member of the Curriculum Committee.

Mr Hall was a member of The Boston Consulting Group’s Executive Committee, chaired the global practices areas and led the firm’s people development.

He has an MA from Cambridge and an MSc from London Business School.

Jude Chin, Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees said:

“We are delighted to have attracted and now appointed someone of David’s pedigree – he is an extremely experienced Chair and joins us at a time of unprecedented improvement at AET. The last few years have seen a period of radical change at AET, turning the organisation into a force for good where young people can thrive and receive an education that helps them go on to lead remarkable lives. On behalf of the Board, I would like to thank Jack Boyer for his dedication and commitment to the trust – AET is unrecognisable from the organisation he joined in 2016.”

David Hall said:

“I’m delighted to be taking over from Jack Boyer at this very exciting time for AET. I strongly believe that AET can truly make a difference to the life chances of its young people. It has the scale, resources, skills and leadership to provide the best possible support to the Heads and teachers in our schools. I look forward to working with the trustees and the team to build on what has been accomplished and to help AET step up another level in delivering for the young people in its schools.”

Julian Drinkall, Chief Executive of AET said:

“Jack Boyer has had a significant and lasting impact on AET, with the changes put in place driving the transformation of the organisation. On a personal note, I want to thank him for his unstinting faith in the organisation and its potential.

“David Hall joins us at an exciting juncture – everything about AET has changed, bar the name above the door. We now have an organisation that has proper governance and financial systems in place and, most importantly, is providing an education that our young people deserve.

“This summer’s results show just how far we have come as an organisation: our primary schools are now well above the national average and have risen by 21% points since 2016; and we are seeing some stellar performances from our students in our secondary schools at both A Level and GCSE, both of which are up by 3% points last year. The new academic year promises further improvements, and we are delighted that David will be joining us as we accelerate towards our goal of delivering an education that inspires our young people to lead “remarkable lives”.
