Teacher Bio

Welcome to AMS Chorus! My name is Kristin Mills McClellan and I have been the Choral Director at Asheville Middle School since 2005. I graduated from UNC-Asheville in 2004 with a degree in Voice Performance and later received my teaching license. In 2009, I became a National Board Certified Teacher. Throughout the years, my choral students have participated in musical theater productions, performed at the LEAF Festival with a Grammy-nominated musician, and scored “Superior” multiple times at the MPA Festival (an event in which choral groups are evaluated by professional judges). I am passionate about singing, and it is my honor to be able to give students the opportunity to develop their confidence, vocal skills, and musicianship through participation in AMS Chorus. In order to create well-rounded musicians, students will learn and perform songs from multiple genres of music. Topics of study include vocal and performance techniques, expression and terminology, music theory, sight-reading and aural skills, performance evaluation, music history and culture, interdisciplinary studies, and project-based learning. It is my hope that students gain a sense of pride and accomplishment as a member of the Asheville Middle School Chorus.

Outside of school, I enjoy playing piano and guitar, singing, writing and recording songs, and performing folk music at local venues. I also like exploring downtown Asheville and the Blue Ridge Parkway, going to see live concerts, watching baseball (GO YANKEES!), and spending time with my wife and dogs.

I look forward to working with my students this year to create and perform beautiful music!
