For our project for the Science fair we decided to experiment and test the reaction between calcium carbonate and an acid. We did so by using vinegar and an egg because its shell contains calcium carbonate. First, we got the vinegar and filled up a cup with it. After that we put the egg inside the cup and left it in there for a few days (at least a day and a half), so the reaction between the CaCO3 and the acid could happen. We did a lot of research and it turned out that it is pretty easy to make. The egg shell had dissolved because of its reaction with the acid. Therefore, the egg was left only with its membrane, so it was not completely hard anymore. This allowed it to bounce and in touch it was like rubber. That’s why it is called the rubber egg experiment.
For more fun you can add a colour to it, so it becomes prettier. We didn’t do so in the video because we wanted to show what it looks like when you clean it.
