Hello, my name is Smaranda Mărculescu, I’m a student at Avenor College and today I’d like to talk about my Science project.
Me and my two teammates, Clara and Karina, wanted to figure out a solution for Squash players. As the squash ball tends to be hard and rigid, in Winters it would be impossible to play with it. As so, we decided to see how the temperature of a squash ball changes the height of its jump.
•Unlike most balls at different sports, squash balls differ, as how good you are, if you want a slow ball, medium ball, or a fast ball, for you to compete with.
•We will use the fast squash ball, meaning the one with a blue dot.
•We will also use the super slow squash ball with two yellow dots.
•This may have a difference when bouncing, and it will possibly have different result.
Our hypothesis was that if the squash ball was warmer, it would be softer and it would bounce higher. Boiled objects tend to be softer and bouncier, if they are able to bounce, meaning they will jump higher and longer distances.
•First of all we are going to get a pot with boiling water and put in there two squash balls. One fast and one slow. We will let them there for circa one hour, and then we are going to take them out and test them right away. “But how are we going to test them?” First of all, we are going to get the roulette and set it to one meter and 50 cm. Then we are going to set ready a camera that is going to film the fall of the squash balls in slow-motion. One of us is going to take the roulette, and the other person is going to drop balls, while the third person is going to film.
•Afterwards, we are going to look at our video recordings, and place everything on paper.
•In my opinion, the easiest way is to prepare: Figuring out the rigidity of different objects, and experimenting with different temperatures helps you to figure out the difference between combinations. The softer and warmer rubber is, it tends to be more elastic, and the outcome would be that it bounces higher.
•I’m sure that squash players thought of different outcomes to bear the winter, such as warming up these squash balls in the car, though letting them overnight in boiling water, or for one ower or two, is enough.
