Math is the secret to science. While this is not a math class we will use math to help us understand incredibly complex problems. The answers to these problems will allow us to make predictions in the same way https://spotthestation.nasa.gov/ can tell you exactly where the International Space Station will be a year from now or tell you exactly when and what part of the sky it will be in at your location (its really cool).
We will be using mathematical models (equations) throughout the year to make these real world predictions. At first it is difficult, but so is learning addition and subtraction when you first see it. You Can Learn Anything. During the first unit we will be learning the math that we will be using for the rest of the year. It may be difficult at first, but I promise if you learn it within the first month, the rest of the year's math is Easy Peasy Lemon Squeezy. If you are having trouble or forget how to do some of the math, this page is your go to resource.
Solving for Variables Slideshow
This slideshow is the introduction to solving for variables. As it says above, if you can understand this material now, you will be in great shape for the rest of the year.
If you struggle with this for more than a month, GET HELP! Otherwise you will be struggling the entire year.
Solving for Variables Practice
This is a link to a Google Doc that is designed to help you practice solving for variables. Print one out or do it on a tablet.
