Big Idea in Physics
We can study something in the world (system), collect data, and explore patterns (mathematical models) to better understand the system and predict/influence its future behavior.
In the first level, your goal is to develop Your Science Toolkit, skills that you will be using for the rest of the semester. This includes the following: Asking Questions. Developing and Using Models. Planning and Carrying out Investigations. Analyzing and Interpreting Data. Using Mathematics and Computational Thinking. Constructing Explanations. Engaging in Argument from Evidence. Obtaining, Evaluating, and Communicating Information.
All levels will operate by you learning skills and then applying those skills to a culminating task (Boss Challenge). If you do not learn the skills, you will not be able to successfully complete the culminating task. If you find yourself at the culminating task and feel like you do not understand, you need to go back and make sure you have the proper skills.
The Boss Challenge for this unit will be an individual written co-created assessment on the skills. In order to pass the level, you must have the following skills: ⬇️
Level 1 - Skills "I can..." Statements and Resources
This document lists the skills you will need to pass the Boss Challenge for this Level. For each of the skills there are explanations, videos, practice problems and quizzes. These will allow you to self-assess on whether or not you have acquired the skills necessary to move on to the Boss Challenge and Level 2. Once you believe you have acquired a skill, please fill out the form below. ⬇️
Level 1 - My Science Toolkit Self-Assessment
This form should only be filled out when you are confident you have completed the skill. For successful skill completion, I would expect you to be able to explain to me and show me examples of how you know you have acquired that skill.
You will need to fill this form out each time you are confident that you can complete the skill.
