How do we use design and STEM to create safer collisions?
The Boss Challenge of this level is to create a bumper out of recycled paper that will allow a walnut to survive a collision. This will allow you to apply scientific and engineering ideas to design, evaluate, and refine the bumper that minimizes the force on a macroscopic object during a collision (HS-PS2-3).
Along the way you will analyze data to support the Newton’s second law of motion Force = mass*acceleration (F=ma) (HS-PS2-1).
In order to save the walnut and pass the level you must have the following skills: ⬇️
Level 3 - Skills "I can..." Statements and Resources
This document lists the skills you will need to pass the Boss Challenge for this Level. For each of the skills there are explanations, videos, practice problems and quizzes. These will allow you to self-assess on whether or not you have acquired the skills necessary to move on to the Boss Challenge and Level 4. Once you believe you have acquired a skill, please fill out the form below. ⬇️
Level 3 - Save the Walnut - Skills Self-Assessment
This form should only be filled out when you are confident you have completed a skill. For successful skill completion, I would expect you to be able to explain to me and show me examples of how you know you have acquired that skill.
You will need to fill this form out for each one of the skills.
