Weather Related Closures + Policies
The safety and well-being of our scholars, families, and staff are paramount when considering weather related closures. As we enter the colder months, families are encouraged to sign up for weather alerts on WFSB (click here) —we will follow Hartford Public Schools when there is a weather related delay, early dismissal, or school closing.

Arrival Procedures
5th and 6th grade scholars will use Door A (the side door near the corner of Bluehills).
7th and 8th grade scholars will use Door B (the door closest to the library/across from the fire station).
Doors do not open until 7:15 AM regardless of weather.
It is imperative that children quickly disembark from their cars and cars exit the campus to keep traffic flowing.
Dismissal Procedures
Bus riders: If your scholar rides the bus, they will be dismissed as soon as busses begin to arrive on campus (usually around 3:05 pm). If you do not want your scholar to ride the bus on any given day you must contact the main office so your scholar is switched to the walker/pick up dismissal line.
Students who are NOT routed for the bus will not be able to take the bus. The bus company will refuse your student and you will be responsible for picking them up. If you have questions regarding your scholars eligibility you must contact HPS Transportation directly.
Walkers/Pick Ups/City Bus: All walkers/pick ups are dismissed from the exit in the library parking lot approximately 3:20 pm. Please note - the first few weeks of school there will be delays as students and staff learn the dismissal procedures. Students leave on their own. If there is someone who is not allowed to pick up your scholar and your scholar may be at risk of being picked up by this person, it is imperative that you inform the main office so we can ensure a safe dismissal.
Pick Ups: do not park in the fire lane across from the fire station. They need access to this lane as they manuever in and out of the firestation. You may be at risk of being ticketed if youchoose to do so.
Early Dismissal Procedures
In the event your scholar needs to dismiss early from school, a parent/guardian or approved pick up must sign the student out from the Middle School main office. Updates for 22-23 school year:
You must contact the main office by 1:00 pm Monday - Thursday if you need to pick up your scholar for early dismissal. You should schedule doctor appts for Fridays after 1:00 pm.
You must contact the main office by 11:00 am Fridays if you need to pick up your scholar for early dismissal.
All families must sign their scholars out for early dismissal at our main office on the 3rd floor. Students will NOT be allowed to leave on their own. No exceptions!
Early dismissals are not permitted after 2:45 Monday through Thursday and 11:45 on Fridays.
Students can NOT take an uber alone. A parent/guardian or sibling over the age of 16 must accompany the student at all times.
