Visitors are permitted to come to CHMS under the following conditions:
All visitors to the school building must enter via the main entrance on 790 Maple Street
All visitors must bring a valid Picture ID. A school safety agent will record name & address on the sign-in log. After signing-in, the visitor must check in with our main office staff and wait for the staff member they’re visiting to pick them up in the main office.
Visitors attending school functions that are open to the public, such as Progress Report Night meetings or public gatherings, are not required to sign in at the main office.
Parents or community members who wish to observe a classroom while school is in session are required to arrange visits in 24/48hrs in advance with the classroom teacher(s), the academic Dean for the content will ensure that that meeting is grounded in an expected outcome, and receives final approval by the Principal, so that class disruption is kept to a minimum. Advanced arrangements can include an email, a mailed or a phone call which notifies the school of the exact day and time of the proposed visit.
School employees who are expecting a visitor must do the following: Verify with your coach/manger, ensure visit does not impede on teaching period or post, create a calendar invite, and notify main office staff ahead of the visit.
Teachers are not expected to discuss individual matters with visitors during class time. Each class visit should be for the intended purpose of achieving a goal, intervention, and outcome.
Families who need to drop off students will do so in the main office only. The student will be called to the main office, meet family members to retrieve item(s), and head back to instruction. Family members are not allowed to go to classrooms to drop off belongings.
Any unauthorized person on school property will be reported to the Principal or their designee. Unauthorized or disorderly persons will be asked to leave. The police may be called if the situation warrants it and a civility letter will be issued.
All visitors are expected to abide by the rules for public conduct on school property contained in the Family Handbook in the Code of Conduct Section.
Visitors are not permitted to bring any weapon onto school property. Any visitor who violates this policy will receive a civility letter and be banned from visiting the campus for one full calendar year.
As visitors exit the building, they should return to the Security Desk and return the ID badge as confirmation that the visitor has left the school premises. A school safety officer will record the visitor's departure time.
After-school visitors must follow the same policy.
