The Waters Edge
"CLEAR AWAY!" Carefully, everyone stepped back on to the road. Just as the last person made it onto the gravel, SPLASH! Dramatically the first test bomb dropped into the water. "Woah!" Shouted a small child from the back, "EVERYONE BACK AWAY FOR IMPACT, THIS ROAD IS NOW CLOSED!" I shuffled through the crowed of people, trying to make my way through. Where could I stand? It was so interesting to see something like this on Islay. Within a seconds of my sentence an idea popped in my head, the hill. Curious, I scrambled up the steep hill and to the top. I made it. SPLASH! BOOM! It was a special siting for Islay. Hopefully, it would be so special that we never see it again. Hopefully...
During WWII Islay was greatly involved in Britains War Effort, as many as 3,000 service men and women stationed there. There were also 2 radio staions at Saligo Kilchiaran.
Fun Fact! : During WWII the Islay Aerodrome was constructed as a Military Airport to provide for planes during WWII. RAF Port Ellen was constructed in 1940, and was given a runway in 1942.
