Stop Motion is an animation filmmaking technique in which objects are photographed whilst being moved and changed in small increments. The photographs, called "frames", when played back quickly, called the "frame rate", appear as motion. Wizardry.
Stop Motion is the technique used in well know films like Wallace and Grommit, Chicken Run or Kubo and the Two Strings.
However, young people don't need to be "Aardman Studios" to create masterpieces that tell stories, describe learning and inspire imagination.
There are numerous free apps for Apple and Android that can be used to create Stop Motion animations, with this one available on all Argyll and Bute Education iPads through Self Service. As a free, cross-platform app, young people can be inspired to contiune exploring on their own device at home.
In this video we show how to get started with the Stop Motion Animation app. We look at navigating the app, adjusting the frame rate, onion skinning and exporting a finished product.
