On occasion, need arises for staff to transfer from one Glow account to another. Moving content between accounts can be an onerous and daunting task. Downloading large swathes of data onto a device and then uploading to a new account can be impractical and sometimes impossible.
In the videos below we step through the process of transferring ownership of files in Google Drive and transferring Google Classrooms in the simplest way.
In this video we step through transferring files and folders in Google Drive. The steps are:
Share folders with the new account
Transfer ownership of folders to the new account
Transfer ownership of each file to the new account. All files in a folder can be selected at once by dragging or ctrl-a and ownership transferred in one step
It is super important that ownership of the files is transferred to the new account - sharing just the folder will mean that when the old account disappears the files within them will vanish also
In this video we step through transferring Google Classrooms. The steps are:
Ensure the new account is added to each Classroom as a teacher.
From the old account, on the People tab, click the three dots next to the new account to transfer ownership
From the new account, head to Glow Mail and accept the link on the email from the Google Classroom
It's important to transfer ownership of Google Classrooms. If a Glow account that owns a Classroom is deleted, the Classroom enters a state that is referred to as "orphaned". Classrooms in this state do not function as they should, and often need to be abandoned by pupils and staff who may still be using them.Â
