As a guide Emergent can be used in P1, Book 1 in P2, Book 2 in P3, Book 3 in P4-5 and Book 4 in P6-7. There is an additional set of exemplar text for variety, or in the case of Book 3 and 4 the + could be used in P5 and P7 to give alternative text to deconstruct as excellent examples. The tracker below should be kept to record when each genre is covered across the session. The purpose of each type of text is highlighted below,
Narrative - To entertain readers by telling a series of events with a problem and a solution
Information Report - To present information that classifies living or non-loving things
Description - To describe the characteristics of people, places and things
Recount - To retell and evaluate events and experiences
Explanation - To explain how or why something occurs
Exposition - To persuade by arguing one side of an issue
Procedural - To provide instructions about how to make or do something
Discussion - To examine more than one side of an issue.
Response - To give an opinion about a written or visual object or event.
