Read Write Inc is used in P1-2 to teach correct letter formation. It is vital that the correct formation is embedded at that stage or the teaching of joins becomes exceptionally difficult.
In School we have resources for Nelson Handwriting Scheme from P3 onwards to support teaching of joined writing. Joined writing supports pupils in writing speed, once proficiency is reached. It supports learning to spell, as the word formation in the correct spelling is easier to learn in joined script for many pupils with specific literacy difficulties rather than individual letters combining to make a word.
