Gilcomstoun Parent Council is a group of parents who represent all the parents at Gilcomstoun Primary School. Any parent with a child at the school can volunteer to become a member of the Parent Council.
Gilcomstoun Parent Council meets regularly with the head teacher/member of the senior leadership team. Meeting dates/minutes are publicised on the school app and on the Parents Facebook page. We always welcome and encourage new parents to come along to meetings and volunteer to help with activities. Gilcomstoun Parent Council has a committee representing the chair, secretary and treasurer who are volunteers from the members and are nominated each year at the annual general meeting.
Our Parent Council aims include:
Support the head teacher and the school in how to involve parents in their children’s learning and in the life of the school.
Represent and provide a voice for parents in the school on issues that are important to our children and families.
Build positive relationships between parents and school staff.
Use the school app and social media channels for communicating about school events and how parents can get involved.
Be involved in the school development plan and consider how parents might support and be involved in achieving its aims.
Support the school when they ask for feedback on creating school policies, Pupil Equity Funding, Poverty Proofing or providing information to support parents with children’s learning in literacy and numeracy.
Fundraise to provide additional equipment and resources for the children in our school.
Support recruitment of senior staff positions at the school.
The Parent Council is a group of parents selected by all parents in the school to represent their views. Parent Councils have an important role to play in school improvement by ensuring that the parental perspective is represented and taken into account.
