What to expect once your child has been accepted to attend Gilcomstoun Nursery...
You will first receive an invitation for a paperwork meeting - these meetings are currently held over the phone due to our current risk assessment, however we will hopefully be able to do these in person at nursery soon.
When you are given the date for your paperwork meeting, we will also let you know when your child will attend their 1 hour and 2 hour visits. These visits allow your child to experience the nursery and our routines before their first full session with us. For these visits we ask the children to be dropped off and left to enter nursery unaided by parents.
If your child has a positive 1 hour visit with us, they will return for 2 hours. If the 2 hour visit has also gone very well, we will increase the session to full (unless its a full day - sometimes we will increase to 5 hours before we increase to a full session 8-6pm).
This section will highlight what to bring to nursery when your child begins with us. Don't worry if you don't have everything from the list below. This is a guide and items we find very useful to have at nursery to keep your child comfortable and safe while exploring. We always say a messy child is a happy child and we do love messy play here at nursery!!
A list of what to bring to nursery :
Change of clothes, this includes: trousers, socks, pants, vest, t-shirt, jumper.
We continue to access our outdoor areas in all weathers, please provide appropriate waterproof clothing (trousers/jacket/all-in-one) and welly boots/snow boots.
During the winter months please provide your child with warm clothing including a jacket, hat, scarf and gloves.
Due to the muddy nature of our garden area, we do require 'indoor' and 'outdoor' shoes, this helps keep our indoor area free from mud/dirt. Please provide welly boots for outdoor play and some trainers/shoes which are easy for your child to change into independently.
If your child is not toilet trained, please provide the staff with nappies, wipes and nappy bags in your child’s bag.
If your child is toilet training, please provide up to 3 changes in your child’s bag, this should include socks, pants and trousers.
In order to provide us with these things, please use an appropriately sized backpack that your child can carry themselves, this is due to our drop off and collection times now being carried out in our outdoor areas because of the current situation. This allows staff and children to have their hands-free in order to sanitise effectively when entering the building.
Please also correctly label all clothing, shoes and bags to enable staff to easily identify your child's belongings.
We do not allow toys from home to be brought into the nursery - unless your child has a comfort item, then this will be previously discussed with staff.
