We believe that providing opportunities to show leadership (regardless of your age) is a great way to build confidence, develop skills and give back to the school community. Our learners are exceptionally creative and are able to lead many opportunities across the school. Please take a look at some of the examples of pupil leadership to learn more.
We have learners from Primary 3 up to Primary 7 who have ran lunch clubs. These are organised, planned, delivered and reviewed by the learners without any adult support.
Anyone who wants to set up and run a club in the school at playtime or lunchtime has to create a plan, create a sign, organise resources and decide who they are offering it to. Most clubs have a specific age range e.g. P4 and P5 or P1, P2, P3. Most clubs have a limited number of places and every week, the leaders go around the school and sign up who wants to come.
We are very proud that our learners organise and run these clubs with no adult support. Although initially, this can be unfamiliar for them, it gives them the independence to develop their organisational, planning and collaboration skills.
Please read what our learners think of the lunch clubs below:
"running a lunch club gives me a taste of being an adult!" RC
"I really like lego club, because we get to use collaborating" NA
"I love lego club, because I love construction and we don't always have time to do it in class, so I still get the opportunity" VJ.
"I am learning communication and leadership skills in Cheerleading club. It can be really hard to teach people if they don't listen, which can make me feel frustrated, but I have learned to get better at this. When it goes well I feel like I have really achieved something." PM
"I love this because I get to help younger kids to do something they like. It makes me feel happy to see them enjoying themselves. It isn't always easy and now I know how Miss Shippen feels in the classroom! I feel tired after leading Gymnastics club, but this then helps me to focus in class afterwards." CE
"Sensory club is really good. The kids enjoy it and I like it because we get to use the equipment and be active. I feel calmer after sensory club because I have got rid of some of my energy and have done a focusing activity. I plan for the activities and then the leaders make their roles clear so the kids know what to do. By leading the club I am learning leadership skills and how to control my emotions if someone isn't listening to me" I MacL.
"Through ICT club, I am learning to teach people new things and also help people when they are stuck." VO.
