Eco Schools

At Airyhall we are committed to being an eco-friendly school and this is embedded in our curriculum. We take part in the Eco Schools initiative and over the years we have earned five Green Flags.

Eco Group

The Eco Group is made up of pupils from Primary 1 to Primary 7 who meet regularly to discuss ideas to keep Airyhalll an eco-friendly school. We work on the ten main topics of the Eco Schools initiative. These are; Waste Minimisation; Health and Well-being; Global Citizenship; Water; Biodiversity; School Grounds; Food and the Environment; Energy; Transport and of course Litter.

The most recent submission is located on this link.

At the start of our two year Eco Schools journey we completed an audit about the topics above in order to choose the topics that we wished to develop.

Slopefield Allotments

We have a strong link with Slopefield Allotments where we work with an amazing team of volunteers. They help us deliver a fantastic outdoor curriculum at the allotment. The pupils grow their own fruit and vegetables and take part in valuable learning about biodiversity and land use, from our volunteers from 'The Hutton Institute'. The produce grown is then either cooked and eaten by the children or shared with families in the playground, to be used at home. Please the links below to find out more about Slopefield Allotments.
