It's Dyslexia Awareness Week - 29th September - 5th October
Being identified as a dyslexic learner is the beginning of an exciting journey! We welcomed the opportunity to work with a group of creative and enthusiastic dyslexic learners in two schools - Dyce Academy and Aberdeen Grammar School. Over 5 weeks we learned more about dyslexic thinking - exploring successful dyslexic role models and our own dyslexic thinking strengths and challenges. We explored what tools and strategies are in our toolkits to help us learn and identified what teachers and support staff can know, say and do to help us with our learning. On the final week we shared what we learned with parents and teachers and created a learner profile that included our strengths, challenges, tools and teacher supports.
A learning toolkit is - all the things we do and all the things we use, everyday to help us learn.

Summer Walker, a pupil involved with the programme, wrote this poem - Dyslexia.
Summer was inspired by a dicussion she had with a targeted support teacher in her school. They were listing ideas for how they could widen people's knowledge and understanding of dyslexia in her local community. This poem is the result of her creative thinking.
A Primary 5 class at Broomhill School have become the first group of Read&Write Toolbar pupil ambassadors! The class were trained by the Dyslexia Outreach Service using Everway's Minecraft Explorers Lesson exploring the Read&Write toolbar tools.
The aim of the Ambassadors programme is to help everyone in school become R&W Toolbar champions, who - use the tools, and have confidence to help others including learners, teachers, PSAs and parents with the R&W toolbar.
R&W pupil ambassadors presented the lesson showcasing the digital tools which can help everyone with reading, understanding, spelling, writing, researching and editing digital texts.
Ambassador duties include being:
Positive
Enthusiastic
Confident
Knowledgeable
Kind
when presenting and supporting learners with the R&W toolbar.
We wish the R&W Ambassadors at Broomhill School (now in p6) luck with continuing to support their school in becoming Read&Write Champions! Don't forget to wear your lanyards to shown you're an Ambassador! ;-)

Being identified as a dyslexic learner is the beginning of an exciting journey! We welcomed the opportunity to work with a group of creative and enthusiastic dyslexic learners at Woodside Primary School. Over 5 weeks we learned more about dyslexic thinking - exploring successful dyslexic role models, our own dyslexic thinking strengths and challenges. We created superhero characters who help us overcome challenges and designed our ideal super teachers. On the final week we shared what we learned with parents and teachers and created personal learning toolkit posters. A learning toolkit is - all the things we do and all the things we use, everyday to help us learn.

What does it take to be a super teacher who supports dyslexic thinkers? What do Super Teachers do, say? How do they make dyslexic learners feel...? 🦸
We hosted the UDT workshops via Lumio - a digital learning tool that makes it easy to transform lessons into active, collaborative learning experiences to engage students.
