Helping Hands
Students will be tasked with empathizing with clients and designing a prosthetic hand to help someone else do something they like. In the process, students will study clients to learn how they may need a personalized product, study prosthetics, talk to a prosthetics expert, and build their prosthetic hand, presenting them to an audience.
In this project, students will explore the structure and function of a hand. They will be presented with the following problem: How would you deal with the sudden loss that that impacts your ability to participate in an activity as you did before you experienced limb loss? Students will study the hand as it is used for different purposes. Students will design and create a prosthetic hand using their own measurements. Students will learn about the impact that prosthetic devices have on those who have limb loss.
Testing to see if the fingers operate properly.
