The IB Middle Years Programme (MYP): preparing students to be successful in school and to be lifelong learners.
What is the Middle Years Programme?
The MYP (Middle Years Programme) is designed for all students in the 9th and 10th grade. It provides a framework of learning which encourages students to become creative, critical and reflective thinkers. The MYP emphasizes intellectual challenge, encouraging students to make connections between their studies in traditional subjects and to the real world. It fosters the development of skills for communication, intercultural understanding and global engagement, and other qualities that are essential for life in the 21st century. Every 9th and 10th grader at Old Mill is an MYP student!
The curriculum
The MYP curriculum framework includes eight different subject groups. The MYP requires students to receive at least 50 hours of teaching time for each subject group in each year of the programme. In the final two years of the programme, students are also able to meet all district requirements and personal learning goals.
What Is the Personal Project?
A personal and creative assignment initiated by all students enrolled in the IBMYP that has a purpose related to the larger community in which they live
A student-directed inquiry aimed at developing the skills necessary to be an independent, lifelong learner
A learning opportunity that allows for expression according to students’ individual needs
*All students at Old Mill High School will complete the Personal Project by participating in lessons in GCC as a freshman, and through their English classes (Q4 of Grade 9 and Q1, Q2 and Q3 of Grade 10).
