Yanshuei Elementary School adopts the vision of "Heritage, Vitality, Innovation" to construct a campus that is friendly, sustainable, humanistic, cloud-based, and community-oriented. Starting from the 2022 academic year, the vision has been transformed into "Heritage, Vitality, Excellence, Character," accompanied by a new vision image. The school integrates the existing curriculum, develops students' key abilities, and provides them with comprehensive character cultivation and learning experiences.

Curriculum Brief Design: 走讀鹽水 Walk and Read Our Hometown
- Grade 1
a campus adorned with old trees that have witnessed the growth of countless children. Introducing these old trees to the children is an important part of life education. The ancient place names of Saltwater carry the stories of the past, and through the understanding of these place names, children can develop a deeper connection and understanding of their hometown.
Every day, on the way to school, there are significant historical sites that carry great significance. It is in the ordinary that we discover surprises, such as the historical buildings in Wangye Lane. Yanshuei, the birthplace of the Beehive Firecrackers, is also a much-anticipated celebration for children every year. It is an opportunity for them to learn about the origins of the Beehive Firecrackers.
- Grade 2
In Yanshuei Old Street, the old and the new coexist. From the corner where the aroma of stinky tofu fills the air to the Baroque-style architecture of the Hupi Temple, the street is adorned with artistic signs that represent different eras. Along the street, you can also indulge in delicious local cuisine and dishes made from local ingredients, such as pork rice and tofu soup, satisfying the empty stomach.

The local municipality (公所) is responsible for local governance and administrative services, including public affairs, civil affairs, taxation, public safety, and community development.
The household registration office (戶政) handles matters related to household registration, such as birth registration, marriage registration, death registration, and household status changes.

Let's guide the children to visit the Saltwater Catholic Church, which combines both Eastern and Western architectural styles. It's a great opportunity for them to appreciate the unique blend of cultures in the town.

- Grade 3
Searching for the history of the old and present sugar refinery in An Nei, we can see the railway tracks but no trains. Let's also try to find the former Yanshuei Train Station.
Recreating the splendid scenery, the charm of Moon Port (Yuejin Port) shines during the Lantern Festival, attracting people from various places. Amidst the lights and water, we can imagine the Eight Scenic Views of Moon Port and appreciate the beauty of Yuejin.
- Grade 4
The castle fair in front of the school gate has a long history. From the agricultural era in the past to the present, it has become an important market in Yanshuei and other towns for purchasing daily necessities. Among the old stalls, we can find the vitality of industries and the wisdom of the common people.
Through the tradition of Ynashuei children setting off firecrackers, let's guide the children to read texts about firecrackers and understand the origin and customs of Yanshuei firecrackers. The Lantern Festival, celebrated every year, is a grand event in Yanshuei, and firecrackers are the highlight of the festival.
- Grade 5
PBL Course: The Shinto shrine has a long history, but over time, it seems to have lost its purpose and is now primarily used as a backdrop for photography. Under the authority of the current government, what mission does the shrine in the school campus carry? How can we reawaken the sense of value of the shrine in the hearts of students?
PBL Course: There is a Catholic church in the town, where the painting style, ceiling decorations, and costumes of the figures all adopt a Chinese style. What is the reason behind this fusion of Western religion with an Eastern flavor in every aspect of the church?
- Grade 6
PBL Course: The three treasures of Saltwater are firecrackers, Yi noodles, and narcissus flower liquor. The first two are well-known local specialties, but how can we market narcissus flower liquor and make it an equally prominent highlight among the three treasures, thereby revitalizing the hometown?
PBL Course: After the lively celebration of firecrackers during the Lantern Festival, the next day brings streets filled with litter and high levels of PM2.5 pollution. This raises the question for teachers and students: How can we achieve a balance between cultural heritage and environmental protection?

Learn the basics of programming using Kodu, training logic through scene design, program arrangement, and character development. Advanced learners can design games using familiar campus landscapes or hometown maps.
Use Google and related software, such as Gmail for communication with others or Google Maps to explore hometown street views and create food maps.
- Grade 5
Use Word to edit text and record life events. Use Word to document and edit local stories, such as food, historical sites, and cultural aspects.
Use PowerPoint to create presentations with text and images, using it as a tool to introduce hometown or international cultures, attractions, and more.
- Grade 6
Teach computational thinking through Scratch, training students to express and break down problems clearly through practical application.
Inspire students' motivation and interest in 2D drawing and 3D modeling applications, integrating information education into daily life and enhancing students' information application skills.

- Grade 3
By appreciating music, students can become acquainted with Taiwanese folk songs and develop a cherished connection to the local culture.
- Grade 4
Through listening to and learning folk songs, students can experience traditional Taiwanese music, which focuses on everyday life, and understand its development background and context.
- Grade 5
Using simple recorder music instruction, students can develop basic playing skills, master the melody and rhythm of the music, and engage in ensemble performances of diverse cultural repertoire. This cultivates an inclusive attitude towards appreciating the differences and similarities among various ethnic groups.
- Grade 6
Through teaching intermediate-level recorder music, students can gain experience in duet performances and, through learning about music from different ethnic groups, develop an understanding of the development of music and historical culture. This enables students to have a deeper understanding and appreciation of the music cultures of different ethnic groups around the world.
