Artist Investigation:

Marcos Beccari works with lots of watercolors while using lots of details. He focuses on intimate and close up detail of mostly women. His work mostly includes lots of play with light and shadows and the human body. Within his body of work he has many nudes and portraits of women, within these he is able to capture incredible likeness using a medium that makes it so difficult to distinguish details.

I believe because this work is so close up and intimate Beccari wants to let the viewers into the mind and life of this woman. He used his composition to capture the details and light across the face. I think he left the background out on purpose to force the audience to imagine what was happening and how this moment was lived. Beccari used the watercolor in a very detailed and precise way, but he was also able to use the watercolor to his advantage and make the piece very whimsical and light with the layering of the ink. His brushstrokes or invisible in some areas which allowed him to reach the level of details but he also let loose in some places to highlight the abilities of watercolor. It is very easy to over do watercolor or leave a piece without deep values, Beccari was able to reach the dark values while keeping the lightest parts in control.

After looking at Beccari I want to achieve some of the details he is able to capture. His skill of the watercolors would be very hard to match but I want to learn from his areas of control to better my art. I also want to be able to capture the likeness using such an unpredictable and loose medium such as watercolor or ink.
