School TCO

As you probably observed through the press and discussions in the community, the last weeks of work at Mount Greylock were probably more down to the wire than any of us had hoped. The Temporary CO was issued on August 30th. Bearing in mind that inspection required work and installations were continuing through just days before this was an achievement. As with many of these processes, characterization of status is in the eye of the beholder. Our Building Department has been committed to doing everything they could to get the project open on time. To that end, they have devoted extra time to in-progress reviews, above and beyond the count that could be expected in order to close out open items and to allow focus on remaining items. To that end, some of the first TCO level reviews were clearly not going to result in a TCO, especially when work was still happening around the interior, but it allowed clearing more items off the eventual list. By the end of August, our Inspectors were rescheduling appointments that could be deferred in order to free up time to be on site at the high school daily in an effort to support clearing completed open items off the project's list. The items on the list were important to meet the minimal requirements of the State Building Code for safety and accessibility needed to issue a TCO and were not able to be deferred until some later date (bearing in mind that there are certainly items that are not at that basic level that can be addressed at the TCO level by submission of a mitigation plan to correct the deficiency prior to the issuance of a final CO.)
