Re: Conflict of Interest Law Seminar, June 19

David Gianotti, Chief of the Public Education and Communications Division of the Massachusetts State Ethics Commission, will present a conflict of interest law seminar on Tuesday, June 19, 2018 from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. in Council Chambers. Mr. Gianotti, a 30 year veteran of the commission, provided the following summary of the seminar, which is intended as an introduction and refresher to key elements of the conflict of interest law as well as to everyone’s responsibilities as public employees:

The educational seminar will explain how the conflict of interest law governs the conduct of public employees. Some of the topics covered include rules regarding gifts, outside employment, representing private matters before a municipality, contracting with a municipality, acting on matters in which family members and business associates have a financial interest, restrictions after leaving public service and disclosing appearances of conflicts of interest.

Please contact Michelle Ells if you plan to attend the seminar. Department heads and board and commission chairs, please pass along this information to staff in your departments/on your boards. If space permits we have the option to invite participation from neighboring communities, but the priority is to provide this training opportunity to public employees and volunteers in North Adams.
