ADA Self Evaluation and Transition Plan

Post date: Jun 20, 2018 8:19:2 PM

The ADA Transition Plan was initiated as part of follow up to the Town's Open Space and Recreation Plan (OSRP) process that concluded last summer. The Town's OSRP was conditionally approved last year on the condition that the Town complete an ADA Self Evaluation and Transition Plan which was to be included as an Appendix of the OSRP. The Town applied for a grant from the Commonwealth's Office on Disabilities in October. Final award of funding was made in late January. Procurement of planning services occurred in February and by March the UMass Donahue Institute was underway on the work. Donahue contracted most technical services to Kessler McGuinness & Associates, LLC of Newton, MA, experts in this field. The ADA Plan will be submitted to the Office on Disabilities for approval prior to the end of June. Community Development Office staff will submit the completed and revised OSRP shortly thereafter for final approval.

Initially required in the 1990s, we were unable to find any record of the plan and/or full institutionalization of recommendations and policies, which led us to believe that such a document was never produced. As part of the overall engagement, the consultants will be presenting at the Select Board's meeting an overview of the process and their recommendations. I expect that we will begin addressing some of these items fairly quickly and then will be contemplating timing and process for those that introduce greater complexity and expense.

No additional action is required of the Board at this time.
