On Wednesday February 17th, Corrine Case will host the initial session of the twice monthly Grief Support Group at the Harper Center, 118 Church Street in town. The group will meet at 9:30 on the first and third Wednesday monthly. This group is open to anyone impacted by loss or who would benefit from a bit of support to work with issues relating to bereavement. Contact the COA at 458.8250 for information.
FREE assistance to complete and file 2015 state and federal income taxes is available every Tuesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 through April 12th. Trained and certified AARP Tax Aides will complete the forms- participants need bring any pertinent paperwork to complete the returns as well as copies of their 2014 return materials. Sessions with the Tax Aide are approximately one hour in length, appointments are necessary and may be made by calling the Council on Aging at 458.8250. The AARP Tax program is open to filers of any age and moderate income.
The monthly Caregiver Support Group will meet on Wednesday February 17 at 2:30 at the Harper Center. The group, led by Judy Bombardier provides care and community to those who provide care for others and is an opportunity for caregivers to meet, share ideas, coffee and relax in the company of other caregivers. All caregivers and friends are welcome, contact the COA for information.
Finally, February 16 is the date for the Annual Winter Tea hosted by our own Karyn O’Toole . Not as formal as the August High Tea event, this one is more earmuffs and gloves than silly summer hats. The tea flavors are the same and there will be cucumber sandwiches among other delicacies. Join us for tea, finger sandwiches and fresh baked desserts at 1:00.
On February 9th, the Berkshire Housing Corporation is hosting two open house events to present the new Highland Woods facility to the community. This new 40 apartment residence will be open for inspection from 10:00 to noon, and again from 1:00 to 3:00. The facility is located on Church Street, behind the Proprietors Field residences, close to the Harper Center and within walking distance of the downtown district. Highland Woods was built primarily in response to the TS Irene disaster which devastated the Spruces. You’ve been wondering what it looks like –now is the chance to visit in person.
