Chapter 4: Graphing and Writing Linear Equations

Chapter 4 is all about lines! We'll be finding slope, graphing lines, and writing equations of lines in different forms (slope intercept, standard form, and point-slope form).

*Standard 4.A: I can find and interpret slope from multiple representations.

*Standard 4.B: I can graph linear equations in the coordinate plane.

*Standard 4.C: I can write linear equations in slope-intercept form from multiple representations.

Chapter 5: Systems of Equations

In Chapter 5, we work on solving a system of linear equations. A system has two equations, each with two variables. Each equation represents a line, and a solution to a system is the ordered pair where the two lines in the system intersect. There are three ways you can solve a system: graphing, substitution, and elimination.

*Standard 5.A: I can solve systems of linear equations.

Chapter 6: Functions

Chapter 6 is all about functions, which are relationships where each input has exactly (only) one output. We'll graph functions and write equations for them, as well as compare linear and nonlinear functions.

Standard 6.A: I can identify if a relation is a function, and if it is linear or nonlinear from multiple representations.

Standard 6.B: I can analyze graphs.

Chapter 7: Real Numbers & Pythagorean Thm.

Chapter 7 works with squaring and cubing numbers, as well as taking square roots and cube roots. We use the square root in the Pythagorean Theorem, which helps us find the missing side of a right triangle, as well as find distances in the coordinate plane.

Standard 7.A: I can find square and cube roots.

*Standard 7.B: I can apply the Pythagorean Theorem and Distance Formula.

Chapter 8: Volume & Similar Solids

In Chapter 8, we will find volume of cylinders, cones, spheres, and composite solids (made up of cylinders, cones, spheres, etc.). We will also work with similar solids, similar to how we found missing measurements for similar polygons in Chapter 2.

*Standard 8.A: I can use the formulas for the volumes of cylinders, cones, and spheres.

Standard 8.B: I can find surface areas and volumes of similar solids.

Chapter 9: Data Analysis

Chapter 9 is all about data and how we can use it. We will look at different displays, including two-way tables, scatter plots & lines of best fit, and how to choose the best data display.

*Standard 9.A: I can work with scatter plots and lines of fit.

*Standard 9.B: I can create, use, and choose appropriate data displays.

Chapter 10: Exponents & Scientific Notation

In Chapter 10, we study exponents and how to work with them. We'll use this knowledge to learn about scientific notation, which is used for representing really large (or really small) numbers in the sciences.'

*Standard 10.A: I can apply properties of exponents to simplify algebraic expressions.

Standard 10.B: I can compute numbers in scientific notation.
