Grading

Students are required to take their instruments/folders home every weekend for 4 points per weekend. Every three weekends, they will be added into Infinite Campus (worth 12 Points). If a student only brings home their instrument and not their folder, they will only get 1/4 points on IC.

Students will have periodic playing tests for Mrs. Stevens during their small group lesson times.

  • The "1st Playing Assessment" checklists are seen below and used for the first 2 months of class. Students will have these in their folders to reference and will keep track of their progress themselves while Mrs. Stevens writes down their progress for Infinite Campus.

  • The "6th Playing Rubrics" below are the ones we will use to assess specific pieces in our method book.

If assignments are not out of 12, you will be given a percentage and it will be changed into the 12 point scale for Infinite Campus from this chart:

Remediation:

Students who are not meeting expectations post-First Five Note fingering assessment will be put on remediation. This requires these specific students to turn in weekly practice logs and document fingering/note practice on www.musicracer.com Turning this in is worth a grade (12 points) each Monday or Tuesday (whichever is the first day I see you) after a weekend. Failure to turn in on time is a zero. Two zeros and the student is asked to leave band class.

To get off remediation, the student may request to retake the fingering assessment. Students may only ask to do this once every two weeks. Once they get a 12, they may be taken off of remediation.

Concerts are also required and graded. Unexcused absence from a concert results in an automatic F for the quarter. Excused absences will need to be made up with a make up assignment to get the points back.
