Introduction Lessons

Although, I have introduced myself informally to the students and staff, I use the first opportunity in the classroom for lessons as a time to formally talk about my role as a counselor in the building.

When introducing myself, the first thing I want to do is make it easy for students to remember my name. So I let them know that my name starts with the word "stain". We talk about what a stain is and I let them know that at the end of the lesson I am going to let them "stain" a shirt I have. All students in the building will participate in "staining" Mrs. Stainbrook's shirt and it will take a special place in my office when complete. (picture to come later).

I also teach what I feel is the most important parts of my job, to make sure everyone is safe, to know they are cared for and important and to help them become leaders at Lincoln. I tell them that I am different than most adults, because I can keep secrets, and then we discuss when I wouldn't (safety) or how I would encourage them to tell people who would benefit from knowing. I am also different from most adults because I "don't do trouble", if you are asked to visit with me, you are NEVER in trouble. I also discuss how they will see me, in the classroom teaching, in small groups or individually.
