All students this week will be discussing Bullying Prevention. Bullying vs Teasing/mean behavior will be defined and what to do if you are bullied or witness will be discussed. Waterloo Community Schools teaches students to Stop, Walk, Talk as its prevention model. The students are all taught this procedure and posters are hung in all classrooms. At the end of the lesson I students will sign a classroom pledge which will also be hung up. Students will also experience an activity which will show them how victims of bullying feel. Ask you child about these activities- they could involve a video, a wrinkled heart, an apple or a candle.

Bullying is repeated. vs Teasing can occur just once.

Bullying is intentional. The goal is to hurt someone. vs Teasing can be done by accident or with the intention to be funny.

Bullying is done by someone who is in a position of power. vs Teasing is done between peers who have no difference in power.
