Grade 6 – Responsible Healthy Lifestyles
Responsible Healthy Lifestyles for Level 6 is a course which encourages balanced growth and development primarily through fitness oriented movement experiences. Students have opportunities to gain knowledge, skills, and attitudes which promote physical activity as part of their everyday lives. Fitness is achieved and maintained through creation of fitness goals, daily exercises, games and sports. Motor Skills are developed along with spatial awareness through various types of throws, catches, strikes and kicks. Social and Emotional responsibility grows through fair play, cooperation, sportsmanship and respect of individual differences. Knowledge of rules, strategy, terminology, and movement etiquette are developed. Pre and Post fitness and skills tests track student improvement.

Beginning Team Sports Activities
Grade 7 – Beginning Team Sports Activities
Beginning Team Sports Activities + Heathy Life Skills for Level 7 is an entry-level course emphasizing beginner skills in a broad spectrum of activities in order to develop a foundation for future physical education classes. The process of movement skill acquisition is ongoing through mastery of basic manipulative skills as students explore a variety of team sports, movement and rhythmic activities. Students apply skills in modified games and may be introduced to regulation rules and game play. Teams are kept small, allowing maximum participation and involvement by all students. Students are introduced to the elements of physical fitness. Pre and Post fitness and skills tests indicate student improvement. Students learn to value fair play, social interaction and celebration of individual differences in activity settings.
General Expectations
1. Arrive on time.
2. Dress for P.E. in approved athletic attire: grey shirt, black shorts, sneakers, (adjust for cold weather).
3. Follow instructions, actively participate in all activities. If needed, submit Activity Limitations Form for temporary medical accommodations.
4. Ask permission before leaving gym or field.
5, Always practice good sportsmanship.

Locks & Locker Room
1. Always lock your locker in order to keep your belongings secure.
2. $6.00 fee charged for lock replacement. You may use personal locks with permission.
3. Respect others’ privacy and maintain appropriate physical distance.
4. Keep it safe and clean: no sprays, glass containers, food or beverages (except water).
Grading
1. Points: Dress-1, Participation-1, Sportsmanship-1, Mile Run-10 per event (*per assign./session).
2. Make-Up Work: Students make up Mile Run and Fitness Tests as needed.
3. Grading and requirements may be adjusted to accommodate individual health issues.
Fitness Goals
1. Students will improve their fitness levels while working towards achievement of the Jaguar Advanced Fitness Goals
and then the Jaguar Elite Fitness Goals. Specific criteria for meeting these fitness goals by grade level and gender
can be found on the Physical Education link at the HIS website: http://his.washk12.org/ or posted in gym.
Fitness Tests: Right Angle Push-Up, Shuttle Run, Plank, Sit & Reach, and Mile Run.
2. Maintain Target Heart Rate (120-180 bpm) for duration of exercise sessions (20-30 minutes).
