Accommodations and Modification

The IEP team needs to review the skills required for the student to participate in state-wide & district-wide assessments. The IEP team should address which modification are needed for the student to participate in the assessment. For some special education students, assistive technology may be a REQUIRED modification in order for them to participate in the subject being assessed.

The following are examples of how AT can be documented in this section of the IEP:

MODIFICATIONS

EXAMPLES:

STUDENT will have access to a portable word processor for all note taking in his general education classes. Implementation of this support will be driven by the case manager and supported by the instrudtional teacher.

STUDENT will ahve access to a calculator for all math activities in the general education classes. Implementation of this support will be driven by the case manager and supported by the instrudtional teacher.

STUDENT will have access to a whiteboard when writing instead of a pencil/paper.

STUDENT will have access to a visual time/visual schedule to help with remaining on task and transitions between activities.

STUDENT will have access to a portable device with speech to text to complete written tasks in both the general education and special education settings.

STUDENT will be provided a graphic organizer to assist with planning, organization, and independent writing tasks.

PROGRAM SUPPORTS for SCHOOL PERSONNEL

STUDENT's teachers will receive training in the use and programming of the augmentative communication device.

STUDENT's special education and general education teachers will be provided with the follow-up training and technical assistance as needed to aid them in integrating the use of the assistive technology device(s) into the school curriculum (i.e. text to speech, speech to text, spell checker, word processor device).

Special education/general education staff can access the District Assistive Technology Team Member for additional support in further AT considerations, trials, and implementation to meet the needs of the student.
