Once we have the basic vocabulary we can learn to interact more by talking about things that we are doing now, things we did in the past and things we might want to do in future. We can begin with the verbs we know and learn how to use them to indicate the present, past and future activities.
Add ங்க /nga/ to make a verb polite.
Observe the similarities. By adding கிறேன் (kiren) we make the verb ‘to give’ denote the present time.
குடு /kudu/ குடுங்க /kudunga/ are the spoken forms for கொடு /kodu/ கொடுங்க /kodunga/. The present, past and future for கொடு /kodu/ will be கொடுக்கிறேன் /kodukkiraen/ கொடுத்தேன் /koduththaen/ and கொடுப்பேன் /koduppaen/ respectively.
Basic Verbs
குடு /kudu/ to give, எடு /edu/ to take, குடி /kudi/ to drink
Present
குடுக் + கிறேன் (kuduk + kiren)
எடுக் + கிறேன் (eduk + kiren)
குடிக் + கிறேன் (kudik + kiren)
Past
குடுத் + தேன் (kuduth + thaen)
எடுத் + தேன் (eduth + thaen)
குடித் + தேன் (kudith + thaen)
Future
குடுப் + பேன் (kudup + paen)
எடுப் + பேன் (edup + paen)
குடிப் + பேன் (kudip + paen)
When you say பணம் குடு
It means you are asking for money from someone.
When you say பணம் குடுக்கிறேன்
It means you are paying someone.
நீ படம் எடு. (You take (a) photo)
நான் படம் எடுக்கிறேன். (I am taking (a) photo)
நான் படம் எடுத்தேன். (I took (a) photo)
நான் படம் எடுப்பேன். (I will take (a) photo)
Let’s see another example which is slightly different.
நீ பாடு. (You sing)
நான் பாடுகிறேன். பாடு + கிறேன் (I sing)
நான் பாடினேன். பாடி + னேன் (I sang)
நான் பாடுவேன். பாடு + வேன் (I will sing)

Present: தூங்குகிறேன் /thoongu + giren/ sleep (I sleep)
Past: தூங்கினேன் /thoongi + naen/ slept (I slept)
Future: தூங்குவேன் /thoongu + vaen/ will sleep (I will sleep)
Present(M): தூங்குகிறான் /thoongu + giraan/ sleeps (He sleeps)
Present(F): தூங்குகிறாள் /thoongu + giraal/ sleeps (She sleeps)
Past (M): தூங்கினான் /thoongi + naan/ slept (He slept)
Past (F): தூங்கினாள் /thoongi + naal/ slept (She slept)
Future (M): தூங்குவான் /thoongu + vaan/ will sleep (He will sleep)
Future (F): தூங்குவாள் /thoongu + vaal/ will sleep (She will sleep)
Plural Forms
Present: தூங்குகிறார்கள் /thoongu + giraargal/ sleep (They sleep)
Past: தூங்கினார்கள் /thoongi + naargal/ slept (They slept)
Future: தூங்குவார்கள் /thoongu + vaargal/ will sleep (They will sleep)
Time Expressions
நேற்று / நேத்து /ne+r+ru/ /neththu/ yesterday
இன்று / இன்னிக்கி/ /in+ru/ /innikki/ today
நாளை /நாளைக்கு/ /naalai/ /naalaikku/ tomorrow
முந்தாநேத்து /mundha + neththu/ day before yesterday
நாளன்னைக்கு /naalan + naikku/
நாளை மறுநாள் /naalai marunaal/ the day after tomorrow

Did you take photos?
Manish: நிறைய படம் எடுத்தேன். இங்கே பார்.

Manish: அப்புறம்?
Then?
Mayur: நல்லா தூங்கினேன்.
I slept nicely.
Manish: நானும் வீட்டுக்கு போய் நல்லா தூங்குவேன்.
I will also go home and sleep.
Mayur: டேய்! நேத்து வரவே இல்லையே? எங்கே போனே?
Manish: மகாபலிபுரம் போனேன்.
Mayur: படம் எடுத்தியா?
