Attendance Policy & Submitting Work
I like to get started on time so I can talk to the whole class for the first 10-15 minutes, giving instructions or showing videos etc, and then students still have plenty of time to work individually on their artwork or in their books. For this reason it is really important that you get to class on time.
Tardy to Class:
If you arrive late to class you will be marked 'Tardy', and more importantly you will miss instructions and information.
5 Tardies counts as one Absence.
Absent From Class:
If you are more than 10 minutes late you will be marked as 'Absent No Excuse'. Eating your breakfast outside doesn't count as being in class; if you are not physically present in class then you are absent.
If you don't come to class then I can't give you guidance and feedback on your work. The more you come to class, the more your technical skills and ideas will improve. Art is NOT something you can throw together the night before it's due!
Remember that your National Committee and Parents have access to the Attendance Register on Blackbaud, so they can see if you are missing classes.
Stage 1 (per semester): 6 absences = Tutor meeting
Stage 2: 11 absences = Restricted to campus, attendance card, parents informed
Stage 3: 25 absences = Suspension
Stage 4: 36 absences = Possible expulsion and withdrawal from exams.
Submitting Work:
There are deadlines throughout the semester (approximately every 3-4 weeks).
If you fail to submit an assessment by its due date and time, you will receive zero marks for that task.
Practice pro-active communication regarding absences and missed deadlines and let me know well in advance if you are unable to meet a deadline because of health issues. Failure to properly manage your time is not a valid reason to request an extension.
Assessments:
I will always use the IB Assessment Criteria to grade your work.
I will tell you at the beginning of each project which criteria I will be using to assess the work and go over the grade descriptors.
I will inform you of the deadline. It is your responsibility to manage your time and meet that deadline.
Maintain academic honesty and avoid plagiarism! Always check with me if you are not sure. Plagiarism on ANY assignment will result in a grade of zero for that task. This is non-negotiable.
